Shortly after this picture was taken, we set
off to the summit of Mt Clay. The weather abruptly deteriorated, the wind was
blasting and rain began to pour.
We rushed right passed the
summit of Mt Clay without even stopping. The rain suddenly turned into
sleet. It pounded on our faces and it hurt, some of us stood around the dogs
to shield them from the sleet. We hid behind a pathetically small rock very
briefly and decided that we had to move on, the rock could not protect us
from the pounding. The decision then was to hike to Lakes of the Clouds hut
to take shelter and by pass the summit of Mt Washington.
When we arrived at the junction of Mt Clay
Loop and Gulfside tr, we all for once came to a quick and unanimous decision
that it was time to descend, without trying to take shelter at the Lakes of
the Clouds hut. We made a turn to get onto Jewell Trail and quickly
descended. But since the wind was coming from the west, it made descending
on Jewell Tr very difficult. we're facing the wind and rain all the way
until we get below treeline.
I had no energy nor mood to take any
picture at this point. the next picture I took would be 2hrs later...
